We are excited to expand our weekly Summer Youth Farm Science Program for 7-11 year olds located on our Historic Farm near the Narrows Bridge in GH!

OVERVIEW: Our summer schedule begins after school lets out in June through Sept.
Each 3 hour camp is hosted on “Teaching Tuesdays.” Choose from 9am-12:00pm OR 2:00-5:00pm.
THIS EXPERIENCE IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE FARM CAMP! Yes there are plenty of animals & crops, but our primary focus is hands on learning around Regenerative Agriculture & Watershed Ecosystems, deeply rooted in environmental science based curriculum!
Each camp builds on another, while tying science concepts together throughout the season. So dress accordingly and prepare to get those hands dirty, while creating some fun things from nature to bring home!
All activities will be held outside on our Heritage Farm rain or shine. All Curriculum is developed and taught by farmer & retired science nerd, Kathleen Rose (see bio here: https://willabellafarm.com/2020/07/25/by-request-the-bio/).
We host small groups drop off program only. Space is limited, so be sure to register early! Refunds are not available, due to short season and inability to back fill pre-registered held spots.
Prepayment via Venmo or check is required to secure your spot. Registration for 5 camps comes with a free camp T-shirt!

NOTE:
1. Every camp will include some interactions with our fur & feathered farm friends 🐐
2. Every camp involves hands on individual & group activities. Some modifications can occur due to seasonality & weather 🌞
3. Every camp requires appropriate dress. We have 10 learning spaces throughout our ten acre farm, so mobility & good shoes are a must 👟
4. Every camp will include various freshly harvested crops & fruit, please notify us of any food allergies🥦
5. Every camp is based on scientific principle including observing, gathering, discovering, sampling, testing, creating & microscope viewing! 🔬

CAMP#1: TUES JUNE 23RD 🐛

Soil Biology & Animal Husbandry – During this camp your child will learn about soil microbes, vermicomposting worms, test Ph and soil nutrients, learn livestock & poultry facts & their role in soil building, harvest & taste cool crops, plant hot crops and build a growing trellis from nature in our new Learning Labrynth garden space #3!

Hugeculture & Companion Plants – During this camp your child will learn about & build a Hugeculture ecosystem, innoculate mycelium, perform spore prints, companion plants, taste & dissect photoperiodic berries in our Papas Strawberry Patch space #4

Beneficial Insects & Pollination – During this camp your child will learn about beneficial bugs, metamorphosis, observe honeybee colonies, identify flower parts, make a bug hotel & puddling station, view insect parts under microscope & make flower crafts around the new expanded Pollinator Apiary space #3!

Propagation & Herbs – During this camp your child will learn about native & medicinal Herbs, gather & make herb smudges, salves, learn cambium grafting & propagate various fruit, berries & herbs from Raspberry Hill and Herb’s Garden in Spaces #6 & #7!

Seeds & Photosynthesis- During this camp your child will gather & dissect seeds both by hand and with white socks on their shoes, learn plant life cycles, photosynthesis, view seeds under the microscope, make seed bombs and taste berries along the permaculture trail down Raspberry Hill space #7 & #8!

Forest Understory & Micro-Habitats- During this camp your child will learn about native habitats, explore & build a bio den, avian, & amphibian lifecycles, metamorphosis, adaptation, native plants, & create a habitat & bird feeders from nature while exploring our native forest and Hedwigs Hollow space #10!

Forest Canopy & FoodSoilWeb – During this camp your child will learn to ID native trees & ID through various methods, locate lichens, mosses, and living organisms within the Food Soil Web, collect leaf samples and dissect owl pellets from our Historic Hansen Native Forest space #10!

MORNING SESSION IS CLOSED/ AFTERNOON STILL AVAILABLE

Watersheds & Rain Gardens – During this camp your child will learn about marine ecosystems, test water samples, view water organisms under a microscope, build a rain garden & imprint their creative mark in microbiology agar with lots of exploring around our shallow Farm Water Feature Spaces #2-#10!

Terrariums & Integrated Pest Management – During this camp your child will learn about regenerative agriculture and the role within a healthy ecosystem, living soil, bioswales, transpiration, integrated pest management techniques build a fruit tree guild & eco-terrariums in Rose Orchard Space #5!

Fall Harvest & Cover Crops – During this camp your child will harvest late season fruit & veggies, view root systems, turn soil with a broadfork, plant cover crops, & design creative fall botanicals. We will also take a special tour of Happy Kitchen Farm veggie fields located on our property Space #1!
